Welcome at the webpage of the Institute for Chemistry and Technology of Materials (ICTM) of Graz University of Technology. ICTM's main aim is to train students of all levels and particularly advanced ones on the basis of pure and applied research projects.

Research at ICTM is concentrated in several main areas comprising

  • materials for solar energy conversion
  • functional polysaccharide materials
  • renewable polymers
  • advancement of polymerization techniques (in particular olefin-metathesis polymerization)
  • porous polymers
  • ceramic materials with special electric, magnetic and optical properties
  • electrochemistry of primary and secondary cells
  • materials for batteries
  • electrochemical deposition
  • surface and interface chemistry

The orientation of ICTM towards applied research has been recognized by the establishment of Christian-Doppler-Laboratories (currently running:  “Lithium Batteries - ageing effects, technology and new materials“ ) and the participation in the Center of Competence for Electrochemical Surface Technology (CEST) and in the Polymer Competence Center Leoben (PCCL). Numerous research projects – reflecting the institute's broad expertise – are executed in cooperation with national and international partners like Austrian Science Fund (FWF), Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) and Research Directorate-General of the European Union as well as industrial partners and SMEs.
