Welcome at the webpage of the Institute for Chemistry and Technology of Materials (ICTM). ICTM is an institute of Graz University of Technology. ICTM's main aim is to train students of all levels and particularly advanced ones on the basis of pure and applied research projects.
In macromolecular chemistry, it is focused on the advancement and application of polymerization techniques. Emphasis is laid on olefin metathesis and ionic polymerization. The field of materials chemistry covers polymeric and ceramic materials with special electric, magnetic and optical properties. The research area of electrochemistry is focused on primary and secondary cells, on electrochemical deposition and surface and interface chemistry.
In addition to well renowned expertise in materials synthesis, also the field of materials characterization is performed extensively, comprising – among numerous spectroscopic and spectrometric devices – thermal analysis of organic and inorganic materials, impedance analysis, mass spectrometry, scanning probe microscopy and x-ray diffraction as well as preliminary processing and testing methods relevant for industrial application.
The orientation of ICTM towards applied research has been recognized by the establishment of two Christian-Doppler-Laboratories (CD-Laboratory for Advanced Ferroic Oxides, and CD-Laboratory for Nanocomposite Solar Cells) and the participation in the Center of Competence for Electrochemical Surface Technology (CEST) and in the Polymer Competence Center Leoben (PCCL). Numerous research projects – reflecting the institute's broad expertise – are executed in cooperation with national and international partners like Austrian Science Fund (FWF), Austrian Nanoinitiative, Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) and Research Directorate-General of the European Union as well as industrial partners and SMEs.
